Painting Class

I have to relearn blogger - if you blog you'll 
notice all of the new changes! Honestly - I
liked the old dashboard. Everything was there
on one page - now I have to search through
all of the new features. 


I have signed up for painting classes and 
I love it!  

The artist's name is Ron and here we
are learning to paint in oils! A 
watermill. 

 
Everyone did a very good job! Ron
walks us through it step by step.

 Here's mine...I realized that an
oil painting is hard to photograph.
The flash reflects the shiny oils.

The hardest part of this painting
for me was the stream. 
This is my second painting and I
am enjoying the process.

 
 This little cottage painting was my
first class. We used acrylics and a 
little oil for the flowers.


I am looking forward to future classes!

 Mother's day flowers

 Looks like it stopped raining here
in Lancaster. Hopefully, I can get
some fabric painting done today.

Quilt show

Last month I went to the
Lancaster Spring Quilt Show. It was held at theLancaster Host Resort & Conference Center.

I was looking forward to seeing the exhibits
of three of my Facebook friends. And of
course there was lots of vendors.
African Quilts and Embroidery booth at the Lancaster Host - I bought this pincushion - I love it!

Tambani is a quilting and embroidering initiative
to set a group of disadvantaged rural African
women on a path of self-actualization and
economic empowerment.

Sue gave a tour and explained each quilt.




I was very excited to see this one in the exhibit
Made right here in Lancaster county!

I loved this exhibit - Mary shows how to display
some vintage pieces. You can buy this book

After walking around for 3 hours my
feet were killing me - I had foolishly
worn the wrong shoes!
There was so much more to see that
I missed!

Free Motion Challenge - Ann Fahl

Thank goodness I have been hoarding
various threads for a long time!
I do have to restock on machine
needles; with so much free motion
practice and changing them often.

This month at Sewcalgal Free motion
Challenge our tutorial is from Ann Fahl!

Loops, swirls, flowers and stars -

Sulky Variegated

I found the stars are kinda tricky;
and mine look a little wonky but I
think that's okay.

Coats and Clark

I just purchased the Coats and Clark - Mercerized Cotton
- 30 wt. It's a heavier thread and I really like it.

I had bought Ann's book Coloring with Thread
awhile ago and really never had the time to
go through it thoroughly. (Life gets in the
way sometimes)



This book is a "must have" for your Free-motion-
embroidery library! Loaded with tips and ideas.
Here's a tip from the book that I'm sure Ann
will not mind if I share it (it's something that
I do all of the time - now won't!!!)

"Never leave the needle in your work when you are finished. Make sure it is in the up position. The needle can get hot if you sew for long periods of time, and it may melt something or cause a tear or a hole in the project"

I hope that got your attention as it did mine!

book which I tried:

I'm a little late with my challenge this
month and really need to practice more.
I was on vacation and then when I came
back - Quilt shows in Lancaster county!

A Little Vacation Time

A little vacation time on Long Island. Over the
Verrazano Bridge I went. Hardly any traffic so
I could get a quick pic with my cell phone.
This bridge connects Staten Island and Brooklyn -
The view is spectacular - you see ships, fire boats,
and the Statue of Liberty.

On the grounds of the Aquarium

My daughter and I took a ride up to Cold Spring Harbor.
In all of the years that I lived here; I was never there.
It's a very beautiful part of Long Island and a little
hilly - the rest of the island is mostly flat.





The following photos are from the Veterans Memorial
at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, L.I. For all of the
heroes of past wars.




What a beautiful tribute to our Veterans!

Another Improv quilt from left over fabric and blocks
from another quilt.



I did a little free form quilting with some rectangles, squares etc.



No particular pattern - just roaming - improv free form - I like it!

This quilt is going to be a charity quilt for my guild.
